In August, the capital of Antioquia is filled for ten days with the colors of thousands of flowers in one of the most important events in the city, attracting more than 25,000 tourists each year.

Once a year, during the Flowers Festival, everything that characterizes its cultural identity is exalted. You’ll experience the spirit of celebration, upbeat rhythms, delicious dishes, folk costumes and the traditions of the people. It is held during the first week of August, in honor of the independence of Antioquia.

On Sunday, August 12, in the main event of the festival, more than 500 silleteros will parade down Guayabal Avenue, ending at Plaza Gardel. . The silletas are an old means of transportation of people and cargo that were used to download merchandise from the mountains. It was declared as intangible heritage of the nation in 2014.
The silleteros carry the silletas on their backs loaded with endless flowers that serve in the form of striking arrangements, distinguished by the following categories: monumental, traditional, emblematic, commercial and artistic.
