Ecotourism, Humpback Whale Watching
From June to September, humpback whales attracted by the warm waters of the Ecuadorian Pacific arrive at Machalilla National Park in Puerto López Manabí. The beaches are breathtakingly beautiful. As these marine creatures pass by the Ecuadorian coast, visitors have the unique opportunity to see them up close. These giant cetaceans, which can be as long as 17 meters and weigh up to 30 tons, gather to mate and to give birth to their babies.
This is an unforgettable experience for those seeking to admire the beauty and magnificence of nature.
The city has 13 well-known beaches that offer a unique experience and are the favorite of foreign and domestic tourists. The beaches preferred by those who practice extreme sports are San Mateo and San Lorenzo. One of the most famous beaches among those surrounding the city is San Marianita beach, which is 15 minutes away from Manta. It is a sandy beach, ideal for swimming.
Culture, History and Festivals
Manta celebrates two festivals: the “Manta for Dance” (June) and the “Spondylus America Dance Festival” (October), both organized by the Cultural Foundation “La Trinchera”. During October, the Month of Arts and Culture is also celebrated in the port of Manta. A series of 88 cultural events take place since the beginning of the month. In addition, Manta is known for its Panama Hats-Montecristi and its exchange programs, where foreign tourists learn Spanish and become familiar with its traditions and culture.
Food
Manta is known for having the best typical food of the Manabí province. Visit Tarqui Beach, which offers visitors the Seafood Park, so called because of the great variety of coastal food, mainly food from Manabí. Here you can also buy fresh fish from the hands of artisanal fishermen and watch the traditional “fish show” that takes place here.
