Discover Costa Rica
Discover Costa Rica
Costa Rica is widely known for its array of stunning scenery and its commitment to sustainability, making it an ideal destination for thrill-seekers, nature lovers, and anyone in search of the perfect tropical haven for a getaway.
Costa Rica is located in Central America and borders Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Although Costa Rica has just 19,730 square miles (51,100 square kilometers) of territory spread across seven provinces, its population numbers more than four million. The Costa Rican people, who are colloquially referred to as “ticos,” are known for being relaxed, friendly, and hospitable, and they take pride in making sure that visitors feel right at home.
Their laid-back, easygoing attitude shapes the way of life in Costa Rica, where agriculture and tourism are the primary industries. The country’s main crops are coffee, sugarcane, tropical fruits, and ornamental plants. And Costa Rica’s widely-varied terrain, sweeping forests, and diverse flora and fauna have made it a popular tourist destination, especially when it comes to responsible ecotourism.
Costa Rica’s weather is also one of its greatest draws. With a rainy season that lasts almost year-round and a shorter dry season, the weather is typically warm, with temperatures hovering around 71°F (22°C). Across the country, however, a wide variety of microclimates can be found. In mountainous areas, the climate is milder, while the coastal areas are warmer. The various types of forests have distinct climate features, as well. Costa Rica has a well-deserved reputation as a safe destination, making it a great place for a family vacation or for solo travelers in search of adventure.

Hit the beach
Costa Rica is bordered by water on two sides, making it an incredible destination for anyone seeking sun, sand, and surf. On the Caribbean side, the coast is home to a wide variety of ecosystems and an abundance of species. You’ll find excellent spots for turtle watching here, including the Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge and Tortuguero National Park. On the Pacific side, you’ll find numerous resorts and beaches perfect for surfing—including Esterillos Beach and Jaco Beach—as well as nature parks, such as Manuel Antonio National Park three hours outside of San Jose. Beachgoers on the Pacific coast also flock to the province of Guanacaste, which offers plenty of opportunities for adventure and things to do.
Venture into the great outdoors
With its lush natural beauty and strong commitment to the environment, Costa Rica is a paradise for ecotourists and adventure travelers. In Costa Rica, you can leave your cares behind and immerse yourself in nature’s wonders. The options are endless: Go for an easy hike or enjoy some bird-watching. Savor the taste of tropical fruit while relaxing on a secluded beach, or sip an exquisite cup of the finest coffee while touring a coffee plantation.
